Frequently asked questions.

What is a Community Plan?

Chelan County and the PUD need to make decisions relevant to Stehekin, and they hope this community plan will inform what they must do. The County will soon be updating its comprehensive plan, and Stehekin’s vision and policy will be instrumental to how the County addresses the Lake Chelan/North Cascades area. The PUD is also considering its options for power generation in Stehekin, and a long-range view of Stehekin’s future will inform how it manages power provision in the valley.  NPS has also expressed an interest in supporting the Stehekin community plan outcomes through its authorities and obligations.

How do I sign up for information?

Signing up on the Contact page will ensure those who do will receive occasional updates on the process, invitations to public events, and reminders to check the project website for new content.

How will this plan be different from what the County and National Parks Service already have?

The County’s current comprehensive plan offers little policy guidance for Stehekin. And the Park Service is focused primarily on its property and service responsibilities in the park and recreation area, with its policy based on the 2015 Land Protection Plan, the 2023 Superintendent’s Compendium, and other sources. These documents do not address the specifics of the Stehekin community’s future, establish policy foundations for land use decision making, or establish priorities for cooperative action.
